Art of Alaska: An Artistic FrontierThe Loon Story
A long time ago, my grandmother Kipo, told us that the Loon was not to be endangered or harmed because it carries the world and all of its inhabitants, both human and animal, on its back. (Grandma Kipo never spoke a word of English. She passed on in 1953.) Therefore the dots are on the back. It also has the ability to fly higher than any other bird of flight so that it can see what is over the next horizon.
