This piece celebrates the form of traditional fishing net weights that have been used for millennia in the Columbia River Gorge. Grooves were carved into the stone weights to help fasten the ropes from fishing nets, which were wrapped securely around the rock. Carvers chose to craft these weights in different shapes and sizes, ranging from simple forms to beautiful creations.
