Rorick Family Exhibition

This group exhibition brings together the skills passed down and woven into the Rorick family. Featuring Isabel Rorick, Robin Rorick, and Raven LaBlanc and celebrating their Haida heritage and the important and living tradition of Indigenous art.

Isabel Rorick, a master weaver from Old Masset, Haida Gwaii, carries forward the ancestral techniques of spruce root weaving, a skill passed down through generations of her family. One of her children, Robin Rorick, was given the time to explore, imagine, and be creative; he was raised to be an artist. His maternal great great grandparents were Charles and Isabelle Edenshaw, his great grandparents Robert and Florence Davidson, and his grandparents Victor and Primrose Adams. His paternal great grandmother was Selina Peratrovich.

Guustl’as Rorick is a multidisciplinary artist and cultural worker from Skidegate, Haida Gwaii. Their name, Guustl’as—meaning “The Tide that Overcame Everything”—was given by their sister, accomplished artist Raven Thorgeirson, whose guidance and creativity have been an ongoing source of inspiration. Their work is guided by the values of resilience, respect, and community. Through both creative practice and cultural engagement, Guustl’as Rorick carries forward the legacy of their ancestors while nurturing space for future generations to thrive.
