Masters of Vancouver Island and Beyond: The Todd Collection

March-April

In March and April we are honored to present works from the Todd Collection, a spectacular array of masterworks collected through the end of the 20th century. This collection brings together masks, bowls, chests, panels and objects from some of the Northwest Coast’s most revered artists, with a special focus on sculptors from Vancouver Island. This is a dazzling survey of some of the most important carvers working in Vancouver Island traditions from the mid-to-late 20th century.

The collection includes works by Art Thompson (Nuu-chah-nulth), Susan Point (Musqueam), Jay Brabant (Cree), Duane Pasco (Non-Indigenous) Calvin Hunt (Kwakwaka’wakw), Beau Dick (Kwakwaka’wakw) and John Livingston (Non-Indigenous/Adopted Kwakwaka’wakw), Mervyn Child (Kwakwaka’wakw/Tlingit/Nuu-chah-nulth), Simon Dick (Kwakwaka’wakw), George Hunt Jr. (Kwakwaka’wakw), Scott Jensen (Non-Indigenous/Adopted Tlingit), Don Yeomans (Haida) and numerous others.

Stonington Gallery will show works from the Todd Collection throughout March and April, with an opening reception on March 1st and an encore reception on April 5th. Works will rotate in and out of the exhibitions as they sell and as the months change over.
