Water’s Edge
EXHIBITION:
Drew Michael: Water’s Edge“Water’s Edge is a reflection of my time sitting near the water and thinking about the place and my own life. Feeling the ebb and flow of the people, times, and places that are part of my life. The mask in the image is part of the earth and, water and sky. If you look into the clouds one may see people embracing. This was not part of my design but ended up showing itself to me through a friend’s eyes. I wanted to include my favorite beach grass that has a beautiful silver or frosty look to it. This grass is also used in baskets made by the Yup’ik people. There is a hole in the forehead connected to a white vertical line. This is a reminder to always stay open to seeing the world around and connecting to a higher self or higher power. The line on the chin represents the tattoos women wear to show parts of her life, depending on the region.”
