WHITE-HOT: Summer Group ExhibitionIn conversation with Phil Gray, he described how Raven started out as a supernatural being who assumed various forms, and even his “raven” self was just one of this being’s many forms. Phil has heard numerous stories about how Raven had not always wanted to eat and had no appetite. At some point in Raven’s stories something happened that made him hungry, at which time his hunger could not be satiated. He had to leave his village because he was eating up his village. This was long before the events of the Raven Stealing the Light myth, and this idea of an “early” Raven feeds into the youthful nature that inspires this mask.
