Sea Otter

For this mask exhibition the artist decided to try her hand at making an Alutiiq-style mask, with guidance from fellow Stonington artist Perry Eaton (Alutiiq). This sea otter, with the most important elements in its ecosystem splayed out in a ring around it, is a spirit who is still in the physical world, in an open universe. In masks where the hoop is closed, the spirit has left the the physical world and its universe is closed.
