Chinook was made from a piece of old growth Cedar driftwood that Raven found on the beach, and split into a workable bolt of wood. He found the concept intriguing that spawning salmon die and give nutrients to the trees growing on a rivers bank. Potentially nourishing that very cedar that I carved into the form of a salmon, in a way Raven looked at this piece as a metaphoric representation of the endless rhythmic give and take of the Salmon’s life cycle, as an example of the undeniable interconnectedness all living things share.
