When Raven Was Making The World
“The Creator picked out Raven to be his helper. He helped the Creator make everything at the beginning of time.
In the process, he asked the bear (Chuckum) “How do you want the days and nights to fall?” Chuckum responded “long nights and short days.” That’s how I want the days and nights to fall.
Next, Raven asked the tiny ant “How would you like the days and nights to fall?” The tiny and said night and day, night and day, night and day.” “That is how I would like the days and nights to fall.”
It came down to a disagreement between the bear and the ant. Chuckum kept saying “long nights and short days.” The ant kept saying “night and day, night and day, night and day.” They were both trying to tell Raven at the same time.
Soon, the ant couldn’t say it fast enough. He grabbed a hold of the bear, pulled out a piece of his hair, and wrapped it around his waist. He pulled on it while saying “night and day, night and day, night and day.”
So, this is the story of how the ant got skinny in the center.”
