Joan Tenenbaum: Moons, Mountains & MysteryArtist Statement:
In hunting or traveling, scanning the horizon is a frequent practice among Arctic peoples. Seen in this form of a traditional Yup’ik kayak is the setting of an arctic sun and beads representing Inuksuit. Inuksuit are man-made stone cairns used by Eskimo people across the arctic as landmarks, as points of reference, for navigation and as markers for hunting grounds.
