Papa’s Boat

This beautiful work is a traditional style Alutiiq Plank Mask. The materials were beach-combed around the village of Old Harbor on Kodiak Island, where Amason-Berns lives and works. “Papa’s Boat” is the artist’s loving and respectful tribute to her step-father who taught Lena how to fish the waters of Kodiak Island, and in doing so taught her so much about life, culture, place and people. As an adult, looking back on these times, she is filled with a deep sense of gratitude for these lessons and experiences.
