This print is part of a series that explores various aspects of the Killer Whale. Spending a great deal of time in Tulalip, Washington as a child I was influenced by the association
between the people and the Killer Whale image. My grandmother grew up there and I would visit with her. I have close ties there still and have continued in the design tradition to create new works of art to honor this ancestor. To me the closeness,
traveling as family mimics what I treasure in life. Although we as Salish people are not a
clan or crest based people this is probably the closest thing I can think of but rather than
symbolize a family alone it reflects the people and the love of the water.
