EXHIBITION:

Splendor In Spring II

This colorful figure is based on traditional “decoy” helmet worn by the artist’s ancestors, and would have been donned by a hunter in their kayak while seal hunting. Historic examples of these helmets are rare, existing in just a handful of museums around the world. With this piece Lena both honors her ancestors and adds a contemporary re-imagining to the canon. This piece can be displayed as a free-standing sculpture, or hung on the wall. It is beautifully finished on the back, as well.
