Encore Presentation: Northwest Native Art GlassDan Friday grew up with famed Lummi weaver Fran James (Che top ie) as one of his Aunties. James (1924—2013) was known for her mastery of weaving and the knowledge of gathering the natural materials required to create baskets and hats, such as cedar bark, maidenhair fern, and grasses.
Friday’s baskets are made by “weaving” glass cane and piecing together sections of glass mosaic, in honor of his family’s tradition, perseverance, and beautiful art form.
