EXHIBITION:
Raven and the Cast of Characters Bid You A Fond Farewell As They Embark On Their Final VoyageHib Sabin explains that his “Spirit Canoes” are not simply vessels but ritual spaces for encounter. “In the space between their gazes is the perfect point of balance; a stillness laden with possibility.”
The opposite ravens might be read through the lens of the story Raven Steals the Light. One figure may recall Raven before his ascent up the chimney, pure white; while the other calls to Raven after emerging with the stolen ball of light. The canoe becomes a liminal space where this metamorphosis is able to be held. A passage from shadow into light, and a recognition that both states coexist, locked in dialogue, their balance suspended in the charged space between.
