Born of Cree heritage on August 17, 1953 in central Saskatchewan, Randy Stiglitz was raised in his early years by his mother on the Sechelt Reserve on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, where he learned Kwaguilth style carving. Eventually he found himself in Victoria where he came under the tutelage of Gene Brabant, a master of Northwest Coast art also with Cree heritage.
