Patrick Wesley

Patrick Wesley was a Haida artist born in 1960 in Skidegate on Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. He began carving in 1978, eventually experimenting with different mediums including fine metals and argillite. Throughout his career, he worked with Tim Boyko, Ding Hutchingson, and Garner Moody. In 1985-86 he also collaborated with Bill Ried on painting the designs for the canoe “Lootaas” for the 1986 World’s Fair in Vancouver. Working with carver Bill Bellis, he designed the Wasco (a giant sea monster in Haida mythology) on the entrance sign to Skidegate’s Spirit Lake Trail in 1999.

Patrick continued to work with a variety of materials including ivory, wood carving, and acrylic on canvas while staying inspired by his ancestral heritage.
