Carl Stromquist

Carl Stromquist is of Interior Salish descent. He focuses on the forms and designs of his cultural heritage. In 1992, he began producing Northwest Coast art in the form of paintings. He currently has eight limited edition prints. Carl has studied under Salish Artist, George Pennier, and started carving wood in 1997.  Stromquist has also collaborated with glass sculpture artist, Douglas Baker, and is currently casting stainless steel with him. Stromquist is influenced by the art of Robert Davidson, Dempsey Bob, Charles Edenshaw, and Bill Reid.  He has a keen appreciation of Northern design.  Carl has expressed a strong desire for the ancient Egyptian form that he reflects in some of his carvings. Carl is now working with some of the most reputable galleries in British Columbia and his carvings are gaining international recognition.

From this journey of truth has come his intent to portray the balance and harmony that exists in the circle of life. Carl’s art is influenced by his profound love and respect for nature. As Carl states, “If we give back to the circle, the circle will remain strong”.
