Shadows on the Water Paddle

In making this paddle, I was mindful that our Haida ancestors spent much of their lives connected to the water while travelling by canoe, fishing, hunting, harvesting and playing. Thus they had a deep knowledge that honored and respected the surrounding waters along with all the beings connected to it.
In designing this paddle I am reminded that we must flow as water and keep moving forward. There are those who do not know the imortance of water today. We need to keep our waters protected from pollution and contamination in order to have a healthy future for our children and our mother Earth. Now is the time for resurgence.
