Beyond the Box – Chrome

This is Northwest Coast style formline art made modern and abstract (in my view). Nothing is represented, but the curves drive me wild. It feels like joy to me, perhaps strenuous joy being that the lines are so formal, so, for me, spot on with their tensions and their flow. Formline art was born to continuously reconfigure itself, so I see this as a spreading form destined to evolve into new manifestations. There are things in it, beasts and creatures, or their parts, which run together, all a part of the inherently animate life that formline art suggests.
