This August, Stonington presents a solo exhibition featuring Jason Henry Hunt. Jason Henry Hunt stands as a torchbearer of the Kwagulth artistic tradition, drawing from a lineage of master carvers and visionaries. The son of renowned Kwaguilth artist Stan Hunt, and the descendant of legendary carvers Henry Hunt and Mungo Martin, Jason Henry Hunt’s work is both a tribute to his heritage and a testament to his own creative evolution.
Hunt’s work is defined by a steadfast dedication to old-world craftsmanship. He favors the use of hand tools, a choice that reflects not only respect for tradition but also a commitment to the tactile, meditative process of creation. His pieces, ranging from monumental totem poles and intricate masks to expansive panels and vibrant paintings, embody the spirit and stories of his people, while bearing the unmistakable mark of his personal style.
