Käthe Kollwitz (1867–1945) was a German artist renowned for her powerful depictions of poverty, war, and social injustice through mediums such as etching, lithography, woodcuts, and sculpture. Influenced by her socialist upbringing and personal losses during both World Wars, her works, including The Weavers and The Peasant War, highlight the struggles of the working class. Kollwitz was the first woman elected to the Prussian Academy of Arts but faced persecution under the Nazi regime, which banned her art. Her emotive and socially conscious pieces remain iconic in modern art history.
