Joseph R. Wilson (Hak’wesagame’) is a Kwakwaka’wakw ’Namgis artist born on January 14, 1966 in Yalis (Alert Bay, BC). He is the grandson of ‘Namgis heredity chief, Alvin Edgar Alfred (K’odi U’dzistalis). Joe learned from Doug Cranmer at an early age, but really pursued his art as a career starting at 21 years old when he was made aware of the incredible works of master carver Chief Willie Seaweed. Otherwise, Joe is essentially a self-taught artist and works predominantly in carved wood and metal.
