Chief Henry Speck (U’dzistalis) was born on Turnour Island, BC in 1908 to a long line of Kwakwaka’wakw chiefs. He was an initiate of the Hamatsa Society and worked as a fisherman alongside his artistic career.
He was known for his skill as a painter and carver of the Kwakwaka’wakw style while incorporating modern, non-traditional elements into his work. Henry passed in 1971 in Alert Bay, BC.
