Young Doctor Headdress
EXHIBITION:Masters of Disguise IV: Group Mask Exhibition
One cannot study the canoes of Neah Bay without running across the work of a Makah carver known as Young Doctor. A canoe carver and ceremonial leader among his people, Young Doctor’s work exhibits some of the best of Makah art. This headdress honors his work and references a song that he sang in 1932 in Neah Bay during Makah Days. The song talks about a canoe that transforms into a wolf and crawls to shore to save its passengers from the looming danger of sharks.
