Twice and Thrice (2019)
EXHIBITION:Tradition Keepers: A Women’s Exhibition
This sculpture by glass artist Kelly O’Dell is about inspecting nature’s details. Why do we keep stones in our pockets, and collect shells on the beach? Do we find them, or do they find us? What is it about that little treasure that we become personally attached to, that stands apart from the other thousands of little treasures surrounding it? The shells are cut in half to see what is on the inside, a hint of nature’s process of how it grew into that form. From the other side of the casting, the shells and insects are magnified by the depth of the glass, offering a closer look.
