Raven is one of the most important crest figures amongst all the coastal tribes. Raven is quick, mischievous, curious and greedy. Various escapades in his life benefited mankind greatly. He discovered fire, the rising and ebbing of the tides, and the alterations of day and night. The Paddle was used for both ceremonial and everyday purposes. Specially carved and painted paddles were used as dance wands to direct dancers during ceremonies. –Jerry Hill
