The Sacred Heart Waters – Limited Edition
This past summer I made a journey with my daughter up to the Sacred Headwaters nestled in the Tsilhq’otin mountains. As a community they have come together to engage in an effective campaign to maintain the protection of these pristine areas and while we were there they were celebrating their recent game-changing rights and title victory. There are several strong Tsilhq’otin women who came forward as leaders to make this happen. In my community, we have a ladies’ dance with bird headdresses that shows familial river rights. This connection between women and water intrigues me. The wealth of fresh water in our region is the source of abundance in our territories. Similarly I see the health and well-being of our Indigenous women as the source of healing and love in our communities.
