For a Chinook Indian, the search for a spirit power might continue throughout a lifetime. Spirit Power, or tamanawas, aided an individual throughout his or her life. From daily activities to the highly spiritual ventures into gambling, trade and ceremony, tamanawas was an inseparable link between worlds.
Personal tamanawas was never explained, but was displayed on personal items in honor of the spirit helpers.
In “Talapas Tamanawas” the spirit of coyote merges with the recipient.
