EXHIBITION:Barry Herem: Beyond Beyond
The word “tondo” comes from the Italian word rotunda, this piece represents the mythic Raven of the Northwest Coast in classic formline form. Casting this work in glass was a hugely complex and delicate operation demanding special skills and a high heat oven which must operate for days at a time. Glass casting was done by veteran glass artist Michael Dupille of Seattle using Herem’s wooden original. The fine steel stand is the work of Mark Rudis, Seattle.
