Maynard Johnny, Jr.

Maynard Johnny Jr. was born April 4, 1973 in Campbell River, British Columbia. He is of Penelakut and Kwaguilth descent and has been designing Native art since the age of seventeen. His paintings and serigraphs exemplify the gracefulness of the Coast Salish two-dimensional design system. Being more of a painter than a carver, the elegance of line and boldness of color in Maynard Johnny Jr.s’ art has made an important contribution in bringing these ancient forms into the contemporary realm. Johnny‚Äôs work has been strongly influenced by Robert Davidson, Susan Point, Mark Henderson and Art Thompson.
